Pyramid Lute string calculator
Hi Guys,
I was reading through Khalaf Oud web and i found "Lute String Calculator", it said in discribtion that it is used for tuning and tension calculation.
I understand the tuning part But i didnt understand the tension calculation?!
As i understand, all the strings with different brand name which has same tuning and same frequecy, will have same tension, am i right?!
Thanks for your help guys

Hello Mr. Ghazi,
The mathematical formula which bounds the frequency (v) of the sound produced by a string to the length (L) of that string, the unit mass (m) of the
string and the stretching force (F) is this:
v= ½ L √ F/m
F=4v²L²m
You are mentioning “same tuning” (means the same frequency (F), the missing element in your definition is the mass (m)
The unit mass of a string is determined by the number of fibers used as the core of it and the metal winding. If these two elements vary then the
tension (the stretching force:F) differs.
With regards
