Help. Stain on my top
I have a stain on the top of my oud from my face that is either oil or sweat or both and it's a bit gross looking. I rest my face on the top edge of
the instrument and, as I've gotten older and fatter my face has gotten looser. Does anyone know of a way to get rid of this. I'm sure this has
happened before to other players. It just doesn't look good.

Try lighter fluid (naphtha)
I've used it to clean up the dark lines under the strings on the face of my unfinished Turkish oud.

Second that. Naptha is a good choice. Relatively harmless, quick evaporating. Go lightly though. I've also used a white eraser. A few passes with some
80-grit will also remove the stains. Okay, okay, just kidding on that last one....
speaking of kidding, have you guys seen this?

DL that reminds me of my friend Nikos who often drools on his bouzouki ..lol.. especially during a heavy taqsim!
Also don't forget to blow the dust-bunnies out from the soundhole(s) once in a while
Keep on playing real good!

No, there's drool problems too. And it may be drool that's making the stain. Gross! But audiences like drool. It's part of the show. The loose face
thing is definitely something I can't do anything about. My entire family had it.
But I will try a little naptha; that sounds logical. I may start playing with a handkerchief like many violinists. I just hope the stain isn't going
to hurt the wood. Maybe it's good for it. "Face Oil" finish. I've made myself sick. Sorry.

Did you learn that from Sol? His Contreras had a big strain where he chewed on it, no?

If you live near Viken Najarian he may be able to put a clear protective tape where you rest your chin.
It wont take care compleetly of the stain but it will stop it from getting bigger and darker.
Iam not sure if he'll disclose the actual type of protective tape he uses or where he gets it.
