Ud Metodu help
Hello friends!
I recently got my hands on a copy of Mutlu Torun's Ud Metodu. It seems like a great book, albeit in Turkish which I don't understand.. although I now
know that tel=wire/string
Most important to me is to learn the notated exercises/etudes with the fingering that Torun intended, and I'm confused about whether I need to
transpose the written notes or not.
My oud is tuned DGAdgc.. do I play the notes as written or should I be transposing them? Basically, I need to know how my oud strings correspond to
what is written in the charts.

I would recommend to go through the book as if you are playing in typical "bolahenk" position as it falls on an ud in Turkish tuning.
So, transpose everything down a fourth from where it's written in the Torun book.
When you see the written pitch "G"...the 2nd line of the staff, play a "C" from your 4th string (the string you have pitched at "A")
likewise, when you see an "A"...the 2nd space on the staff, play your open D string (3rd string)
make sense?

...by the way, those are the positions he would have his own students using so you'll be in good shape.

Hey Adam, I think you meant to say play everything down a fifth from where it's written . . . down a fourth of course is for 'turkish' tuning BEAD,
while rebetostar is in 'arabic' tuning ADGC.
By your example, in which you say G should be played C (down a fifth), I assume this is what you meant, I just don't want others to be confused.
cheers,
Brian
