Your Opinions on a Fawzi Munshid Please

Greetings all,

Can I have your opinions on this oud please, its a 2003 Fawzi oud with a good history according to the seller had a cracked rib (tiny split) repaired professionally.

I am awaiting more info from the seller, so meanwhile I'll attach some pics.

Ronny Anderson, Oud Proff your opinions on this are valuable on this, any ideas or advice on what to look out for.

best regards to all,

Awad

Hi Awad, This oud is built the same year as my own main oud with the only difference the number of ribs. 2003 Fawzy did some small changes that year and some structural improvement on his ouds but still the weak point on this oud and many other ouds with floating bridges is the area at the bridge. The crucial time are the first months for new built instrument so an instrument that have been played on for several years should not give any surprises but just mature and blossom like my own Fawzy.

Best wishes

Ronny

Hi Ronny,

Thanks very much for the advice, This oud was owned by a proffessionl mucisan who complemented it so much soundwise. We are negotiating the price now:bounce: so hopefully if the deal goes through I will post some sound files and pics.

Best regards,

Awad

Good luck with the transaction Awad! That head on the pegbox is really cool, sort of like an African looking carving. Did Fawzi do many of these heads or do you think this was a special request?

Hi Matthew,

Thanks mate, I hope I strike a deal with its owner, I have no idea if the carving has been done by its owner or Fawzi but I think Fawzi would have done it better. anyway probably that Mask as Samir put it, must have done its magic cos now I am truly in love with it. so watch this space in the coming days:cool:

It is off course done by Fawzy and it's as Matthew said African styled and finish is not the best but gives a odd signature with the batman styled pick guard! Pegs are also not the best but working fine and I dont care much for such details as long they do what they are aimed for plus that the oud has a sound that is completely different and for me superior other makers floating bridge ouds.

Best wishes

Hi Ronny,

You've even made it more interesting for me now, as I haven't seen this style before and I very much like it. At first I'd thought someone carved it with something sharp as the pictures are not very clear. It looks beautiful on your oud and very clear, I think with this guy watching its very inspiring.:airguitar:

Thanks and play it in good health,

Awad

Ronny, did you say Beethoven?! I would have never guessed! looks a little more more like Munir Bashir ( in an abstract sort of way)!
Ludwig once remarked:
"Music is a higher revelation than Philosophy".
Now that is pretty cool. I wonder what he would have done with an oud?
