Ya Rayeh
Hello Group, how's everyone doing.
I'm new here, and also a new oud player, just learned to tune oud's n stuff, now going to go to the next level "to play an actual thing", i love the
song "ya rayeh wain emsafer" i was wondering if anyone can demonstrate it slowley and then play it, with focus on the oud for us "or me" to learn? i'd
realy appreciate that...... and i think its a good song to start with..or...? anyone?

The original composer el Harrachi (tahya al djazair:xtreme played it with banjo.
But if you have his version i think it is possible to follow with the oud. (Me I find it difficult, specially to be in the rythm).
I would also love to listen at this song played and sung on oud. It is a great great song and i will like to learn it.

q8oud, here is the sheet, it is not an easy piece to start with, zalzal is right the rythm is difficult and it goes very high up the neck (you can
still transpose these parts to a lower and safer areas).
This is the original version composed by Dahman El Harrachy.
Alors Zal, let's hear it on your new oud.
I love the way how the title is written with the accent: YaRRayah

I also love this song! Here's a youtube clip of a version I enjoy on what I believe is some kind of mandola (looks like my octave mandolin).

Thankyou very much Alami, yr rythm is very helpful.
We have now the rythm and the sheet.
Let me put now the arabic phonetics, arabic alphabet and translations in french and english.
(I copied it fm some of many of internet entries on this song).
SO WE CAN NOW LEARN IT AND SING IT.
Do not forget that probably the vast majority of members of this forum are emigrants/immigrants, and this song is an hymn to the emigrant.
q8oud, you say "i've been listenin to it played on oud for ages now"....
I have also listened to it many times, but rarely on oud. Mostly on algerian mandol, and of course, on banjo, which was the preferred instrument of
Dahmane el Harrachi, a real virtuose player of banjo.
q8oud, if you know on any version on oud pls advise as i would like to listen at.
Thankyou Orahim1 for yr version but i still prefer the original chaabi ones, specially El Harrachi one.
Listen at his one while looking at nice photos.

Now the song
Chhal cheft al bouldan laamrine wa lber al khali
Ya lghayeb fi bled ennas chhal taaya ma tadjri
Tzid waad el qoudra wala zmane wenta ma tedri
Ya nnayem djani khabrek ma sralek ma srali
Hakdha rad el qalb bel djbine sabhane El Aali
Rachid Taha - Oh Emigrant
Oh where are you going?
Eventually you must come back
How many ignorant people have regretted this
Before you and me
How many overpopulated countries and empty lands have you seen?
How much time have you wasted?
How much have you yet to lose?
Oh emigrant in the country of others
Do you even know what's going on?
Destiny and time follow their course but you ignore it
Why is your heart so sad?
And why are you staying there miserable?
Hardship will end and you no longer learn or build anything
The days don't last, just as your youth and mine didn't
Oh poor fellow who missed his chance just as I missed mine
Oh traveler, I give you a piece of advice to follow right away
See what is in your interest before you sell or buy
Oh sleeper, your news reached me
And what happened to you happened to me
Thus, the heart returns to its creator, the Highest (God)
TAHYA AL DJAZAIR !!!!!!

Zalzal,
Very nice find. This is probably the song I hear remixed the most on Middle Eastern fusion Cd's. The first time I heard it was on the Arabian Travels
CD put out by Six Degrees Records. On that CD there is also another remix of a song called Telephone Arab which I also enjoy quite a bit and has oud.
