Lets talk Bracing
Hi Guys,
I am a new time subscriber, old time follower if the forum and a passionate oudist.
The purpose of this thread is to start a discussion regarding bracing. The reason is that everybody probably agrees that the difference between a good
oud and a bad one is in the bracing. Many people have said that Mohammad Fadel's mastered the bracing of the oud.
What makes good/bad bracing.
What is the function of the different braces, e.g., it could be that some of them are structural, some acoustic. For, the acoustic one, which ones are
for low pitch and which ones are for high pitch. In reality, I have no clue so it would be good to understand that.
How is the sound influenced by the shape of the braces and many other questions that I hope will come up from everybody.
If you have examples of bracing from different oud makers that would be perfect to illustrate the ideas. For example, we can contrast M. Fadel bracing
with somebody else's.
To make things sort of scientific, it would be perfect if we can have a set of standardized sizes for oud upon which we base our discussions.
Thanks.
FF.
