I have an oud with horn rosettes where some parts of the horn are quite dark. Is it possible to bleach horn to lighten it - say, either with household
bleach or oxalic acid (wood bleach) without risking de-lamination of the horn?
That's a good question Harry. I'd get a scrap of horn to test it out first. I use 40 power Hydrogen Peroxide (from Sally Beauty Supply) to make bone
whiter. Works great. Regular bleach will make it disintegrate. I haven't tried oxalic acid. Let us know how you come out.
