PVF treble strings
Dear fellows
What can you tell about the PVF treble strings ? Are they better compared to nylon? less tension with higher volume? durability?? I am thinking of
trying them but your feedback would be of great help.

pvf trebles
i didn't find them better then other strings...they are thinner and tend to be easier to manipulate for ornamentation so I believe certain players
like this aspect . I use the pyramid customs...much cleaner and stronger sounding on my ouds.... also it depends on your style of playing and how your
instrument responds....

Hi K, Ive just spent a fortune on various strings to determine what I prefer for my Sukar oud. PVF are not bad but I dont think they are as good as
"plain" nylon, PVF are thinner but they are not louder or clearer, they have a slight nasal overtone to my ears. For what its worth Ive tried Nylgut,
Pyramid "lute strings", Savarez & PVF and have come full circle back to Pyramid Orange label which I find to be perfect tension, loud & clear
with good tone. Ok so they are cheap but for me they are also the best. C

Hi Katakofka,
Charlie's got a point there regarding the tonal signature of the PVF trebles, you've got to check them out for yourself on your oud to see if you like
them. Since they're higher in tension, you need to adjust the guage to keep the tension the same as regular nylon stings. Check Hank at http://www.musicaravan.com, that's where I get my PVF trebles from. Good luck.

For me PVF sound a little more brighter, but not so much than plain nylon.
Also had problems with PVF from Kurschner: the strings were loosing filaments when getting older, but a bit too quick, before one month of use. Then
strings become irregular and loose unisson tuning in high notes.
I am now trying PVF from pyramid (and music caravan for turkish tuning).

Hi, I've been using PVF for a little while now and the only thing I think I can add to what's already been said is that they are way more stable than
nylon, I don't know the figures but they seem to be less affected by changes in humidity than nylon. Personally I think they feel a bit "hard". I'm
waiting for Nylguts.

Savarez do the full range of PVF strings that will include the string you are after. They go far thinner than is needed for high f. C

I've tried the 0.44 and 0.41 from pyramid and savarez respectively. The 0.44 too high in tension and get broken while I am tuning. The 0.41 too light
and lost it's integrity.
Using Jameel calculator, pvf strings are higher in tension as compared to Nylgut and Nylon. Nylgut are also higher in tension as compared to Nylon.
What do you use as f nylon (698.46) from pyramid ? an f string not too light and not to high in tension?

I used the PVF strings for the 1st and 2nd courses (C and G) and found similar problems as suzidil above. After about a week of playing they would
start to fray and then wouldn't intonate properly. So far my favorite is Pyramid's rectified nylon lute strings, but their "standard" oud sets are
good too if you can find the proper tensions for your oud.
