twangy low F string
Hello oud forum freinds,
My tuning is C F A d g c', and I've always had this problem with most strings brands (esp. the Aquila low tension): the F string sounds "twangy",
almost out of phase.
I'm thinking either a high tension would help. OR, could it be the gauges are too thick (and vibrating too close to each other? If the later, then
a lower tension (lighter gauge) might solve the problem...
Any thoughts is much appreciated. . .

Hello Samzayed,
I have a 7 course oud with the same tuning you mentioned. I use Arabic LaBella strings with the additional Low C (by Aquila) with no problems. The
best supplier out there is Jameel Abraham. He does carry all kinds of excellent quality brands. Check out his website:
http://www.khalafoud.com/strings.htm
I do ask you, however, to please stay away from the "high tension" option. It might damage the sound board.
Good luck
Hatem

Hi Hama,
Send Jameel an email, and give him the info on your current set of strings. From this he could probably give you some suggestions on what strings to
try for on your F. Good luck.
Regards..Paul

Hi Hama,
Apologies for not getting back to you earlier.
I am not an expert. I just learned a few things "the hard way".
High tension might damage the soundboard!
As per Paul's posting, Jameel should have a chart for individual strings' tensions.
Personally, I had good luck with the LaBella and the Aquila (low tension) sets.
Good luck,
Htem

Sorry, I didnt mean "high" tension... just meant higher (slightly higher) I think I'm going to try this route for my next set from Jameel
Thanks for all your feedback...
