Cutting neck/peg box joint
This is going to seem basic to a lot of you, but, as I've said a million times before, this woodworking is new to me.
One of the most difficult parts of the oud-building process is getting a tight fit at the neck/peg box joint. It's a ridiculously weak joint, and you
really have to get the surfaces to mate to get any strength out of it.
To cut the neck properly, I mount it to a wood fixture that I designed that will give me the 40 degree angle at the end that I want. A couple of
dowel rods fits it snugly to the fixture, and the small holes in the neck can be filled at the end of the process.
The neck stays fixed to the same spot of the fixture. By putting one end of the fixture against the guide, I get one cut, and then get the other cut
by simply moving the fixture so that the other surface is against the guide.
That sounds unclear to me even as I read it, so I hope these pics help

I love this jig. It's utterly simple, and that's what makes it great. You can't screw up the angle. Bravo Jonathan!

What a great jig... and thank you for sharing it with us... I need to post more of those kind of things. Is that a Jet bandsaw?

Clayton--that would be great. I'm struggling to come up with ways of making the process smoother, and any tricks (excuse me, techniques) that would
facilitate this would be appreciated.
