first string tuning problem
My oud (Bahrain) is relatively new (about 1 1/2 years old). Recently I accidentally dropped it, although with no visible damage, save for a minor
chip on the part below the bridge. Since then I have never been able to get the first string (DO) to tune right. It has a sitar-like sound. That is
the best I can describe. When I move to a higher note on this string, it remains out of tune. Any suggestions as to the possible cause? Thanks for
your help.

Post a picture
If u post a picture maybe we can see if something is changed- i had something similar without dropping the oud and the problem was the strings touched
one on the other- i had to make new holes so they separate and it was solved.

Is-it a floating bridge oud?
In this case, may be the bridge movedand may be the string doesn't set well on it. This could explain why you are out of tune when playing the
string....and the sitar sound.

In fact, I thought either that or that the strings are touching the neck. But I could not see that the strings are touching nor any obvious contact
with the wood. Will double check. Thanks for alerting me to these things.

Too bad! This must be really frustrating.
Could it be that one of the braces inside is loose? did you try to "hammer" on the face with one finger? does it give a buzzing sound then?
