Can I use this to build an oud?

I will be getting Richard's book pretty soon but I'm already looking at wood. I honestly have no experience in woodworking nor do I have any clue how
to play an oud but I feel like I need to build one.
So how does that wood look? Will it work?

While this Peruvian wood is ok for building, the pieces are not the correct size for the ribs, so you will need to cut and waste quite a bit of wood.
I recommend you find a hardwood dealer near you and see if they will rought cut wood to the dimensions needed, or refer you to a shop that will.
Walnut grows nearly everywhere in the world and is a very good wood for ribs - easy to cut and bend and looks nice too. If you can't find a dealer
near you, try GILMER WOOD COMPANY. They sell spruce for faces, fingeboard rosewood or ebony and some nice mahogany, very good rib wood. They can rough cut the
ribs, just tell them it's for a lute and give them the dimensions.
