Hi Dani,
Nice but short. How long have you been playing? And what type of oud do you have? It sounds nice. is the reverb natural or just an electronic
effect?
Best regards,
Elie

Bill, this problem of strings is of secondary importance for you. I believe oud players are among the most neurotic people around.

...oud players are among the most neurotic people around.
...talked to anyone on the lute list lately? i have no way of proving this - just a hunch - but i think playing with a plectrum keeps one sane.
problems really start to show "up top" when the pick gets put aside.
there's a sound that some oud players have when performing early european music. it could be a lower tuning, a less embellished style of play or
it could be gut strings, i don't know; but the piece that dani posted has this sound.
are we witnessing elevated standards of excellence and a fresh new sound from our swedish vanguard?
hmmm?
ciao - bill

I disagree.

I think it's only a question of oud model: I have seen several medieval fantast playing large Maghreb made ouds. Modern reconstructions of early
lutes/oud tends to sound very differently a modern oud.

Yes. We are less close minded than many other.
Btw, an Italian luthier is building a Bonaiuto vielle for me and I'm working also on a reconstruction of the Cantiga oud. I'm digging in
medieval music....

Yes Bill, the cantiga oud on the attached picture. I have done some reaserches and I hope to start the project now.
North African ouds, are you thinking about the so called Kuitra or east Arabic ouds?

post some pictures of the oud when its finished.
kuitra, i'm unsure about. what did you have in mind when you said that large, maghreb made ouds produce a medieval sound?

The Kuitra is a shot neck lute with a neck that is longer than the one on a standard oud. The neck is also equipped with semi tones frets. Some older
ones are very beautifully made with odd materials for decoration at the bridge area and lower end of the bowl. This oud you can find in Maghreb and
they are plenty in shops in Tunis (not the old ones).
The east Arabic oud made in Maghreb are many times built of cypress for both bowl and soundboard. Also you can find ouds with soundboards made of
Atlas cedar (same as Lebanon cedar). I like these ouds very much and I would recommend you to get one.

Dani,
Please help me as I am a bit confused .
Elsewhere on the forum you mention that you have an Anwar Kubeh & Sons Oud that was purchased for you in 1994.
But it appears that the excellent sound sample you attached in this thread was played on a $25 oud you purchased on ebay. Somebody else suggested the
instrument used for the recording may have been "an old Nahat."
Congratulations on your wonderful playing and the great tone achieved, but could you please clarify which instrument you used to record the sample?
Regards,

OK, I realize that I am a relative newcomer here, but jeez, those words seem really harsh. Most importantly, the oud sounds really good. In the end,
it is the player's talent that counts, and Dani plays his oud very well. To dismiss anybody's oud as a "piece of crap" just seems
out of line. And, I really think that sometimes we equate an oud's price tag with it's worth. Sometimes that is the case, but often it is
not.

Well, I know what you are hunting for Jonathan, but my Dani is my friend here in Sweden and he knows what I'm talking about and it was intended
for him. In fact I give him oud lections.
Best wishes
