Can somebody help me about Copper wound Strings! Thanks
Hi Guys!
Does Anybody tried or heard about Copper Bronze wound strings from Pyramid? What is the difference between silver plated. I hear the sound is more
Earthly and warmer Sound compare to some Silver plated. Is there any difference or just the color?
Coz I dont see other people here using Copper Bronze. But I saw it on Some Jameel abrahams oud or that is varnished red copper from Aquillas. Not sure
though!
Coz I'm Looking for a smoother and less scratchy sound from wound strings.
Any suggestions?
Shukran

Hi Philip,
As far as I know, Pyramids used to produce them long time ago but not any more. and If you see it in
the market, it might be faked. The best way to do it is to order it from Pyramids directly.
My advise to you, In pyramids web, you will see strings set for Turkish oud. I know your oud is not
turkish, but personally, i found it very suitable to our arabic tunning, which you have in your maruice oud.
Thanks

Hello,
all oud string sets from Pyramid are wound with silverplated copper. They do not have any more copperwound aoud string sets. One possibility is, to
choose the copperwound strings instead of the silverwound strings in the sets I have created with the lute strings.
You can find theese sets in my shop with numbers SET OUD P01 - SET OUD P29.
About the difference between silverwound strings and copperwound:
the copperwound strings give a much more warm sound, and are very good for a combination with gut or Nylgut strings.
Nylgut strings are from Italy. They are similar to gut, but they are synthetic. Aquila offers sets for the Aoud too. Here you have two tensions of
each set/tuning. The lower tension sets are made with copperwound strings. These sets have the numbers AQOA T..-L or AQOT T..-L for turkish tuning

If yes I want that....
Do u have a Single F string bass that is a little bigger in diameter than normal F basses double.
Coz I have 7 string but I'm only putting 1 F string bass. But mine is a little thin and Flaby....
Any Suggestions?
Kindest regards
Philip

Hello Philip,
it is no roblem to deliver an additionally F-string with a higher tension. Send me a message thrpugh my shop telling me the tuning and the string
length and then I can give you the string number to order through the shop.
Yes, theese strings are of the reddish colour. It is copper and no bronce or something else.
Regards Matthias

Hello Phillip
I have tried Savarez copper colour which are designed to be used with gut trebles. They sound well but are a little on the quiet side. I now
have settled with the copper colour bass's from nyal gut Turkish set and PVF for the 'g' and 'c' courses. For me the Nyal gut bass's are excellent as
they express a very oudy bass tone. The nyal gut trebles however, do not seem to compliment this. The tone between the plain and wound strings in nyal
gut sets is too different for me, which is why I use pvf trebles. These do not clash tonally with the copper colour bass's. Each to their own though.
Best Wishes, Charlie

Hi charlie thanks for the message
are using PVF from savarez also on the g & c?
How's the sound of your PVF is it more britter than other PVF's
I'm currently using PVF from hank levin:
http://www.musicaravan.com
But mine has a different effect on my oud it seems to be pretty sweet sound I like the sweetness of it but it does not add any treble at all. Not what
I have expected. I expected to be sharper. But nevertheless more quality of sustain and projection
Waiting to hear your comment on this.....
Cheers
Philip

Yes I use Hank Levin pvf aswell, they are more dense than nylon therefore thinner. I've not tried other pvf brands. The tone works well on my Sukar
oud and they are sweeter in tone than nylon. For me nylon is just too dead and slow, like there is almost a very slight delay before the string
actually sounds after striking. Nyal gut and pvf do not have this problem. It has taken a long time to decide which strings to use (2 years) but
finally my ear has selected what suits me best.
Best Wishes, Charlie

Hey Charlie!
Good to know man!
Yes U are right they sound sweeter and organic and nice touch respond especially if u play soft.
But I have a question I its is okay with u. Did u experience ay fray on your savarez PVF? coz on hank levin Pvf after 3 days I notce a wear out on the
string and suddenly I pulled this wear out and it almost rip the string into pieces. Good That I have 4 Sets of PVF from Him.
Can u post a link were u exactly buy your Savarez PVFs.
Thanks I'd want to try savarez also.
Cheers
Philip

Hi Phillip,
Go to the Savarez web site and see if that helps.
I got mine from Bridgewood and Niezert in London tel: (uk code then ) 0207 2499398. Ask for Savarez flouro carbon(PVF) I dont
remember how they are numbered so give them the pyramid nylon gauges but ask for the flouro carbon(PVF) equivalent. I recommend equivalent to nylon
gauge c=650 and g=825.
Best Wishes, Charlie

Interesting info in this thread
Can you tell me if PVF and Nylgut strings, although not equivalent, have the same kind of characteristics, when compared to nylon? or are they
completely different animals?
thanks,
Dan

If you scroll down the page on this link you will find waveform analysis for Nylgut and Gut strings, (almost identical) perhaps there is also
something like this for nylon and pvf then you could compare...
