Emergency Risha

At work, or simply away, you have the oud but not a risha?

Well I found that those things work very fine (the new plastic ones not the old metallic), and cost nothing. Sometimes I love cheap LowTech.

Makes me wonder, what if I punch a hole or two in those thick and wide rishas, they usually have a nice attack but are too hard for my playing, may be with a hole in the middle they'd keep the nice attack but with more flexibility.

Hi Alami! good suggestions for emergency rishas. I wonder if a hole in just the right place on a plastic risha where the thumb holds might give a better grip?
if no risha you can also try using your fingers- :airguitar:

Great suggestion Alami. Thanks. I found myself in this situation 4 weeks a go when I got stuck in The Hague because of the volcano Ash. I was not as creative as you are so I used a soft Id card (like credit card) but it was still rigid.

Jaafar

Hi!

I highly recommend to give this technique a try, because it gives a wonderful smooth and warm sound, which several players use temporarily. I love this technique for calm sections in songs.

Regarding Alami's tip ... in my opinion these loose leaf binders are too soft ... I would recommend a cable tie instead, which isn't that extremely floppy. On the other hand ... who has a cable tie in the office? :D

Great suggestions, I will be reviewing the company hiring policy.
may be also adding some belly dancing skills as a plus (just for Aymara's frame drum)

If you're in the kind of stressful business when you sometimes feel the urge of killing a client, it is good to have a oud in the office, trust me.

A headphone and a full load of oud music MP3s attract less attention, than playing oud yourself or a handcuffed secretary ;)
