Need help figuring out sheet music
HI,
I was wondering if someone can help me figure out on how to read sheet music while playing the oud. I understand the the basics of sheet music (like
the standard notation) but what I'm having trouble with is seeing a note on the sheet and connecting it to the oud. For example, if I see a G does it
mean to pluck the G string which is the second string from the bottom of the oud? Or if I come across a C note does it mean to pluck the first string
on the bottom of the oud?
I apologize for the beginner question but I'm really having trouble understanding.

It depends, since there is more than one "G" or "C" on the staff and on your oud.
The "C" that is the space on the staff (FACE) is your high open "C" string.
The "G" that is the line on the staff (EGBDF) is the next string.
The "D" that is the space below the staff is the next string.
The "A" string is two ledger lines below the staff.
The "C" that is one ledger line below the staff would be your third finger on the open "A" string.

Hi,
Im trying to understand this website. http://www.maqamworld.com/maqamat/rast.html were do i put my fingers on the oud for the first maqam? I see a b on the ledger but I dont think
there is a b on the oud.

I don't know if it's the best way, but this is my way at the beginning:

So when I write Eb E F Gb, it means on the "D" string Brian Prunka talks about. I know this is the tempered scale, but difficult to learn without it
with western staff notation...
To play the note C use your ring finger (the 3rd point from the left on the 4th courses from the bottom when you are on position with your oud).
To play the note D use the open string (the 3rd courses from the bottom).
To play the E-b- use your index finger (between the 1rst and the 2nd point on the 3rd courses from the bottom).
To play the note F use your ring finger (the 3rd point from the left on the 3rd courses).
To play G use the open string (the 2nd courses ).
To play A use your middle finger (the 2nd point on the 2nd courses).
To play B-b- use your little finger (between the 2nd and the 3rd point on the 2nd courses).
To play c use the open string (the first courses).
