New to playing instruments

Hi,

As the topic title indicates, im completely new to playing any instrument and after hearing the songs of Naseer Shamma (Palestinian heritage) i have decided to learn how to play the oud.
I have already ordered the CD of Oud-proff and bought myself a second hand oud for 135 euro's.
The seller didnt know anything about ouds neither do i so i dont know if its good or rubbish...At least it looks pretty.

To know wheter its good or bad i assume i would have to provide you guys with a sound sample. The problem is me being new to any instrument i dont know how to tune it.
I downloaded the proggram AP tuner, could anyone tell me how and to what i should tune it? My oud is a arabian one so i could tune it to C F A d g c (example, i know there are many other tunings) in this case should i tune the thick low toned bass string to C or c? While tuning do i have to press the strings with my left hand or should i only pluck it with the plectrum?

I also read that to be able to know where i have to press to get a certain tone i should measure the oud length, between wich 2 points should i meassure?

Sorry for asking so many questions, as i said before i ordered the learning maqamat cd but i already want to start this weekend...Hopefully you guys wont mind a compleet newby to ask such questions:)

No answer for a newbie? Strange!
