improtant to loosen strings before flying with an oud?
well the title says it all, is there any danger of the high pressure damaging the oud if you don't loosen the strings before a flight?

Hi Masel- I've heard it was better to loosen strings on guitars/ouds if an instrument was going to travel in the hold of an airplane, but in the cabin
not so much a problem. I've always followed that advice.
If you have to put your oud into the hold, make sure you have a strong case!
regards, MW

The pressure is of no consequence, but there is a temperature difference between the cabin and some parts of the cargo area, but it is the vibration
that is the most damaging. Loosening the string relieves any tension on the face that might be cause damage by temperature changes and vibration.
