pyramid 'g' & 'c' string, advice please.
Hello Everyone
I am about to experiment (yet again) with the 'g' & 'c' string on Arabic oud.
I am trying to decide what would actually be an appropriate light tension for these 2 courses on an old Syrian oud with a 60cm string length.
I have used 0.825 for the 'g' and 0.650 for the 'c' on a Sukar 61.5cm string length.
Maybe I'll use the same for the older oud but would welcome your views on this subject, and/or your recommendations.
Many thanks
Best Wishes, Charlie

60 cm is not very long, so those would work, but on an old oud I would tend to use 750 and 625. I like light tension though, especially on old ouds.

Thank you Brian, I was about to U2U you as I thought you might have a suggestion. I'll give them a go.
I notice you do single D'darrio plain nylon at oud strings.com.
Its a different guage system as far as I can tell.
What would be the D'dario size nearest to 750 and 625, and how do they sound compared to Pyramid?, I've never used D'darrio oud strings.
Best Wishes, Charlie

Hi Charlie
Dadario gauges are in 0.00" so if Pyramids in .0mm gauge then .750 mm = approx .029" and .625mm=.024".
In my experience the Dadarrios don't sound so good if too slack whereas Pyramid lute trebles seem to tolerate and respond better when used at lower
tension. I guess the oud itself will tell you to ( 8 out of ten cats...... ..)
Regards
Kelly

The Pyramids would be approx. .0295 and .0245, so in between the d'addario gauges. In my experience, .029 and .024 work well on longer ouds (61+cm),
but the Pyramids would be better on your oud since it's shorter.
