Problem with pegs - detuning

Hello guys,

I'm a newbie as for playing the oud. A few days ago I received my first oud and tried to tune the strings properly. However, I noticed that the strings get out of tune very quickly, so that playing is not possible since the first string pairs are already out of tune before I finish tuning the last string.

I have already tried to press the pegs deeper in the peg holes so that they are fixed stronger but it didn't have any positive effect. What could be the problem and, more important, what can I do to fix this problem?

P.S. I have a Sukar and Pyramid strings.

Thanks in advance!

Hi allen,

are the strings new? If so, they need to stretch for a while, so you have to tune again and again and again.......

If it is a peg-problem you can use pegdope or a very dry piece of soap and chalk.

For more info use the "search"function of the forum. You are one of many oudies with the same problem. Just tipe "slipping pegs"

Hope you find a solution,

Marcus

Playing the oud is like feeding my soul with peace
