solo oud and belly dancers
Hi all
I'm doing a bit of research into music that will be suitable for solo oud / belly dancer performances. Now, I know there are heaps of good pieces
suitable for dancers but I'm wondering:
1 - what pieces--from a musicians point of view--have worked best for you
2 - if there are particular maqams are best suited for creating taqsims to which dancers do their thing.
I've played leylit hob, hibeena, ah ya zein, lamma bada and various other "set" pieces for dancers but I'm curious to hear about your experiences on
what has (and has not) worked when playing for dancers.
Cheers

Better get some rythms, tablas, precussions, even remixed arabic stuff.
I can't imagine the oud used to accompany belly dancing.!
However if you have some examples on U-tube or so, would be interested to watch, just by curiosity...

Well, all you really have to do is have a dancer that can do zils.
Percussion problem solved!
That is what my wife and I do. You see, she is very fortunate to be good on the dumbec, unfortunately, she is the only one in our group that is!

Hi CQ- there's probably a lot of useful clips on youtube as oud freak suggests that might give you some ideas. Here is a clip that was posted in the
forum a couple months ago by Samir; a hot oud player and a cool dancer.
Ok, so it's not quite belly-dancing, but demonstrates that you can get down and boogie to a good oud player if that's what you want to do.
