What Maqam is "Nasam 3laina Hawa" for Fairouz played?
Hey Everyone,
I'm praticing notes for maqam from scratch but on the way i tried by ear playing the above mentioned song, it went will at the begining but then i got
mixed, please advice on which maqam is this song played?

Hi Nancy
the scale is: LA-Sib-DO-RE-MI-FA-SOL-LA (sib, do, re..ect on the next octave). This is called "KORD LA" or "Nahawand RE" since 2 makams can be played
using this scale, but the main mood is KORD.

Samir's youtube video is playing "Nassam" on the scale I mentioned above. I just saw it. So Nancy, one is showing you the hand position and one the
scale where to play it. You have no excuse now to post it played

Dubai..why on Sol Samir is playing it Kurd LA in his video. You know it can be
played on FA, RE, SOL, Do..etc. But to be coherent and helpfull let's keep it on LA

Gentlemen
Although mentioned song is Arabic and I heard from Fariuz`s LP but it is in Muhayyer kurdi. A makam used in Turkish music also.

Hi Dincer, hope your doing fine, last time we meet I drove from DC to PA bringing with me my Nahaat Oud
Muhayyer kurdi or Kurd LA I guess we're talking about the same notes but giving the makam different name. A question: what do you call the same makam
when played on Do,Re, or Sol instead of LA? Do you still call it Muhayyar Kurdi ?

Yes. As far as Turkish musical system that I know, we call makams not according the keys or notes they played on but according intervals and "Seyir"s
they have. Contrary even some predominant Turkish musicians and music theoriests say, to transpot a makam to a different key does not change it.
Although every makam has a generally excepted key to play on, theoreticaly with some few exeptions all makams can be play on same key or note. Meaning
you can play Rast and Ussak on LA ( Dugah). Again some people call Rast on dugah is Nisaburek. That is not correct. A proficient and capable oud
player can make Rast and Nisaburek and Ussak and Evic taksims on same note like "A" or "Dugah". Cinucen used to do it. Exceptions are Makams like
Segah and Bestenigar which are very difficult to do so on oud since all your fingering will change to accomodate to produce intervals for these makams
accepting "A" as "B with a Comma flat". Again it is possible but very difficult. I hope I did not confused you my friend. If you did, don't take
seriously what this old man is saying !!

Thats interesting, i guess i have asked an important question to have all those guidelines, well i'm still trying my best but unfortunately again i
cant find the time to pratice this wonderful instrument, but i am doing my best from time to time.

Not at all Dincer, no confusion. It's just an attempt to understanding the differences in makams. As far as seen on youtube many Muhayyer Kurdi are
played on B key (A positon in arabic tuning) which gives the impression that Muhhayyer Kurdi is only played on B. It seems it's the same between
turkish and arabic but we call it Kurd, in turkish you call it Muhayyer Kurdi.
