old samaii collection

wazza - 8-30-2006 at 03:20 PM

Hi everybody;
I have gathered some samaiis from my collection that I want to share with you.
the sound quality is not excellent but it allows us to have an idea about the samaii which is played strictly as it (useful for learning).

samaii collection

any comment is welcome.
regards.

Mike - 8-30-2006 at 04:03 PM

:applause:

wazza - 8-31-2006 at 02:36 PM

hi everybody
I'm glad because the compil pleased you.
I have just finished recording and converting a tunisian broadcast named "ADWAR" : in which each episode deals with a maqam (samaii, lounga, instrumental composition, dawr, takasseem in the maqam).
the maqams are : rast, bayati, sikah, hijaz, kord, ajam, saba, nawather and nahawand.
if you agree I wil start with rast :
Episode 1 - Rast
if the idea interests you I can continue uploading the remaining episodes what do you think ?
regards.

Rambaldi47 - 8-31-2006 at 03:24 PM

Thanks very much for the semai collection.
have a question regarding the new link.
initially i thought i might need to register to dl the file
cause it said 'Download this file' but it does not have any download link
there but still the same even after i registered for the standart account.
thought it might be firefox/explorer compatibility issue again,
so checked them both but still can't see any download link there.
is it just me?

sounds like a really informative and essential series to have.

Greg - 8-31-2006 at 07:43 PM

Here is a source of Turkish musical pieces grouped according to maqam:

wazza - 8-31-2006 at 10:15 PM

hi everybody
I'm sorry for for the unconvenience Rambaldi47, to download the file scroll the page given by the link above then click on the link "fast and extreme download" in the bottom of the page then wait for 30 seconds (counter is in the bottom of the page in the last line) after that a link to the file appears.
I hope it helps you
please inform me if you have download problems i can change uploading site next time if you prefer.
regards

Rambaldi47 - 9-1-2006 at 02:02 AM

it's ok. thank you very much for uploading it.
just got your message and dl it.
it's good that i registered to the site 'accidently'
cz now i'll have some place to ul some files i want.

Thanks again. :applause:

[EDIT:] just started listen to it and i saw it the past
weeks on the tunisian channel. we get it here in our cable
service. my only complain is that they keep interrupt the
broadcast and move to other shows/news right in
the middle of a song. cool thing you managed to get
them intact. i remember the same thing kept
hapening when i collected videos off the moroccan
tv channel we used to get. had so many andalusian
recordings but interruption in a middle of a song to
get to a broadcast from the 'parlament' was so common
it got me to stop and recording over those half-completed
performances. too bad. could've been really informative
to anyone wanted to get them, even half full.

Benjamin - 9-1-2006 at 02:26 AM

Thanks guys!

wazza - 9-7-2006 at 12:52 AM

hi everybody
thanks for your kind reply
the episodes haven't been released into any CD I have recorded them directly from TV and ripped them to mp3 format.

Philippe - 9-8-2006 at 11:21 AM

Thank you Wazza to share this with us. I just have a simple question. What is the .rar extension and what should I use to be able to use it?
Thanks!

Philippe - 9-8-2006 at 12:00 PM

Forget the last post, I found the software. Thanks very much! I was looking for Samai Safar Ali! Great collection by the way!

Benjamin - 9-9-2006 at 06:21 AM

Thanks guy!
Wazza do you know who composed the longa rast on the second part of your download?

Benjamin

wazza - 9-9-2006 at 02:39 PM

hi benjamin;
unfortunately I don't known the composer of this rast lounga, itsn't even in my oud method (5 books).
however in the first part the lounga is by abderrahman jabaqji (to correct the mistake in the filename).
I hope a member of the forum could recognize the lounga it's effort worthy.
regards

Rambaldi47 - 9-10-2006 at 05:24 AM

I love the samai bayati eryan. it's just so compelling and tear jerking.
now if only i could buy an oud start learn how to play the oud,
but with our crappy financial status and my upcoming teeth treatment,
i don't see that hapening anytime soon...unless my brother's friend
(a professional oud player. we're about the same age. he's very talented)
would lend me his newly-bought oud and agree on teaching me for small
fee (which i wouldn't feel comfortable on doing so), i might need
to wait another year or so. :(

Thanks again for uploading these files. having them sorted by maqam and
style would really help those who are in their 'baby steps' and would sure
be handy for those who are in their advanced training.

oudman - 9-12-2006 at 02:43 AM

Can you post nawa athar or hijaz next? Im in the mood for something dramatic ;)
Thanks very much

wazza - 9-13-2006 at 01:57 AM

oudman - 9-14-2006 at 06:06 PM

:applause:

wazza - 9-15-2006 at 01:29 PM

hi friends;
for the hijaz episode I did a mistake in filename numbers so no file remains.
let's move to saba (the fifth) episode :
05 - saba
enjoy

oudman - 9-16-2006 at 05:29 PM

Thanks very much, great!

mjamed - 9-18-2006 at 04:17 AM

thanks wazza

actually i liked up-file.com or hemenpaylas.com are both better than rapid share !

because you don't need to wait for download token like rapid share. And many times rapid share prevents you from downloading saying that you that you're currently downloading a file when you are not.

oudman - 9-18-2006 at 05:40 AM

up-file actually gave a lot of people problems, including myself.

wazza - 9-18-2006 at 09:53 AM

hi everybody;
I have uploaded the sikah episode to hemenpaylas I hope it will be better for you than the other uploading servers.
06 - sikah
If you have any problems downloading the past episodes please feel free to tell me so that I re-upload them in a server that suits you.
regards
:wavey:

Mascun - 9-18-2006 at 10:14 AM

Hi Wazza,

I'm busy downloading all the goodies you have posted for us, but before even listening to them I want to thank you for all the hard work you must have put into this collection, and uploading it on various servers !

Alan

Benjamin - 9-19-2006 at 07:07 AM

Wazza, the Saba part was great, especially ibn al balad and the samaï. Does somebody has the scores for theses?

oudman - 9-21-2006 at 07:00 AM

How about nahawand next? This is all ive been listening to lately....thanks again for these great files

wazza - 9-22-2006 at 10:23 AM

Alan

mjamed - 9-30-2006 at 02:35 AM

Hello

Could you post "samaii collection" file, ajam, Nahawand and siga on servers other than hemenpaylas.

thank you very much for sharing this

cheers

Rambaldi47 - 9-30-2006 at 04:39 AM

hi, wazza. Thanks very much for all the new episodes.
about hemenpaylas: it was fast with the previous episodes
you uploaded to that host but with the new '08-ajam' episode,
the dl speed is strangely slow...real slow.
hope you'll be able to ul it again to rapidshare or some other
fast reliable host, if it's not too much trouble.

Thanks again :buttrock:

wazza - 10-1-2006 at 03:27 AM

hi friends ;
here are the three requested episodes : the sixth, seventh and the eighth ones respectively : sikah and nahawand and ajam uploaded @ rapidshare server.

and I'm now uploading to the same server the samaii collection posted earlier in this thread I will post its link as soon as upload finishes.
bye

wazza - 10-1-2006 at 08:05 AM

thank you so much

Mascun - 10-2-2006 at 03:57 AM

I thoroughly agree with Mjamed :) You have shared with us a veritable treasure trove !

Alan

wazza - 10-2-2006 at 05:49 AM

you're welcome my friend
I'm happy that you appreciate my contributions.
as I learnt (and still learn) a lot with this wonderful forum I think I must contribute and share what I know and the music I have so that the forum stays our detente and ressourcement corner.
thank you

oudman - 10-6-2006 at 02:15 AM

Hi Wazza
You know, I was having so much fun listening to these that I almost forgot there is a final one, Kurd. Think you can treat us to it this weekend?
Thanks

TruePharaoh21 - 10-6-2006 at 10:57 AM

Hey everyone,

Unfortunately, I've run into this post a bit late. I've always been thoroughly annoyed by rapidshare, but I'll try to make my way around it for this post (always preferred uploading.com... no wait, and somewhat faster downloads).

I wanted to ask if anyone here has the Samai Huzzam by Yusuf Pasha. If so, can anyone post it? I'd be very grateful.

Thanks,
TP21

wazza - 10-6-2006 at 04:50 PM

hi everybody;
I have just finished uploading the kordi episode :
http://rapidshare.de/files/35771584/09-Kordi.rar
I'm sorry TruePharaoh21 like you I dislike rapidshare and i plan to reorganize the whole thread by correcting the file links as you mentioned @ uploading.com.
I will do it in collaboration with our admin.
regards.

Mascun - 10-6-2006 at 11:15 PM

Hi Wazza,
There's something I don't get : on page 2 of the old samai collection thread you gave us : http://rapidshare.de/files/34797837/09-Kordi.rar, and now on this page there is : http://rapidshare.de/files/35771584/09-Kordi.rar. I'm a bit confused ! Which is which ? (I've not had time to listen to either one of them yet.) Maybe the first one is Hijaz Kar and the second is Kurdi. Am I right ?
Alan

wazza - 10-7-2006 at 01:36 AM

Hi Alan ;
the link posted before has been disabled so I reuploaded the file to renew the link OK.
the content is the same so if you downloaded the episode from the old link you don't need to download from the new one but if not the new link is valid while the old is not.
regards

Mascun - 10-7-2006 at 01:49 AM

Thanks Wazza, but "kordi" is just another way of saying "kurdi", right ?
I really love these different ways of spelling, confusing as they might appear sometimes. They're just like in the old days in Europe. For example I have the facsimile of a French guitar book of the late 17th century, in which the word guitar is spelled "guitarre" and "guittare."
Even in present-day Spain, placenames are spelled in many different ways, sometimes only just a few miles apart.
And when I went scouting around the Marrakesh Soukh a few years ago looking for an oud, and found one and asked how it was tuned, the salesman laconically answered me "all depends on what you're playing brother !"
Standardization may be practical, but boy, it can be so boring. :)

Alan

zalzal - 10-7-2006 at 05:00 AM

Thanks a lot Wazza.

I missed the saba part with rapidshare (and i like a lot the taste of saba maqam, something in between, a transition...) .

The previous Benjamin post is increasing even more the need to have it and listen to it.

Can anyone update ??

Wow now there is a lot of material to listen, study and enjoy...

wazza - 10-12-2006 at 03:24 PM

hi zalzal and all friends,

here is the saba episode that I uploaded at hemenpaylas because rapidshare doesn't really store the file for one month minimum.

http://www.hemenpaylas.com/download/1858566/05-saba.rar.html

I apologize for download speed but the file availability is guaranteed to a minimum of one month of inactivity unlike rapidshare.

best regards.

mjamed - 10-14-2006 at 10:06 AM

Hello

All rapid share for Kordi has been deleted. Could you upload them for me on rapidshare or hemenpaylas

thanks in advance

mjamed

wazza - 10-15-2006 at 12:41 AM

you are welcome my friend I preffer hemenpaylas as I said before and here is the saba episode.
http://www.hemenpaylas.com/download/1881677/09-Kordi.rar.html
have a nice day

mjamed - 10-18-2006 at 01:40 AM

I am really impressed by this collection and the quality of the music.

Thank you very much for your effort & time to share such a thing.

Thank you mike for this great foroum

Mascun - 10-19-2006 at 11:59 AM

Hi Wazza,
I hadn't taken time off to listen to the Samai collection, but I can only hear four of them properly : hussaini samai, sama'i el aryan, samai farahfaza and rast-tatyos. All the others are completely inaudible, I can only distinguish at first a hissing sound, then vague noises which could resemble music heard a mile away, broadcast from a portable telephone wrapped up in several layers of cotton wool and tin foil. Has this happened to anyone else ?

Alan

wazza - 10-20-2006 at 02:14 PM

hi Alan,
the samaiis are perfectly audible in my PC, although I have recorded them from a magnetic tape, the quality is fair.
anyway, try the following link :
http://www.rogepost.com/dn/p966
I have increased the volume in each file and uploaded them again (to rogepost.com because they remain 100 days after the last download).
regards

Mascun - 10-20-2006 at 02:34 PM

Hi Wazza,

Murphy's Law, I guess

I tried rogepost, and after a one half-second download (Broadband is fast, but THAT fast ??), when I tried to open the rar file, I was told "the archive is either in unknown format or damaged".

I think the samais don't want to know me :(

Thanks for everything all the same !

Alan

wazza - 10-21-2006 at 09:42 AM

hi again
there was a problem in the server so that the downloaded file was empty.
try this link:
http://rapidshare.com/files/144354/samaiis.rar.html
I hope the sound problem is fixed.

:wavey:
