what can use to clean smudges off the unfinished top of the oud?

clean the face with denatured alcohol on a cloth, nothing abrasive and never never never sand the face or scrape it.

After cleaning you can seal the unfinished wood with egg white, strained to remove the yolk and thick albumen. Brushed it on liberally and wipe the excess off with a clean cloth or paper towel.
