wittner finetune pegs
HI all
I am looking for some wittner finetune pegs.
any help witch size do i need?
7.8 mm -violin
14mm ?
8.6mm

Hello,
the type you need depends from thediameter of your holes and the width of the pegbox. Take the measurements at your instrument and then you can
decide.
In most cased I needed the viola pegs as the violin pegs are too small and thin. Aoud pegs have the tendency to be very thick, which leads to Viola
pegs also.

Hi Matthias and other luthiers,
Another option I have considered is using ukulele friction tuners as an alternative to standard pegs. These come in a variety of qualities, all the
way up to Gotoh Planetary geared tuners. I understand that to refit an Oud pegbox to accommodate such friction tuners would require some work but
beyond that they seem like an ideal option which is a fair bit cheaper than Wittner pegs. There are even some wood friction tuners which would not
disturb the Oud aesthetic too much. I'm interested in your thoughts on this option.

For the length issue I was imagining the friction tuners to only be attached to one side of the pegbox, on the same side as the head of the tuner is.
The area where the string is attached in the tuner would therefore be 'floating' in the center of the pegbox. Therefore the tuner would not have to be
the same length as normal pegs. This is how they are mounted on ukes (i.e. The tuners, like many geared tuners, are mounted through a single piece of
wood, the headstock, and do not bridge a divide as in the case of the oud).
