:applause:Congratulations.
I'm guessing that you're going to be using Arabic tuning so here it is.C,G,A,d,g,c or C,F,A,d,g,c. It seems wierd that you only have 8 strings :shrug: I would get a new set of strings and put them on. If you need more help search under strings or tuning.

Could that particular oud be a four course oud? If so, wouldn't it be tuned C D G A?

Hello Hilou,

A common tuning on this forum seems to be CFAdgc. Check out these posts:

http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=888

Also if you do a search on this forum you'll find several more.

Oud on my friend.

When you see capitol letters(C,G,A,) it means the bass or low strings and when you see lower case(d,g,c) it means treble or high strings. Have your mom try to get you some strings made by a company called Pyramid.
Good Luck.

Standard notation

Here is what I found the standard to be:

c' = middle c or C4, 4th octave;
c = one ocatve below c'. It is C3 or third octave C;
d = note one step above c;
C = two octaves below c' . Also indicated as C2 or second octave C;
C' = three ocatves below c'. Also may be written as C1;
c'' = one octave above c' which makes it C5, fifth octave C.

Whether or not everyone posting to the forum follows the same standard is uknown?

Regards,
Elie

I don't see any when shopping for an oud. What I see most common are 11 to 12 string ouds.

How many pegs or peg holes does your oud have?
