hi Raabiah- if you are located in the UK there is an oud maker located up north named Michael Moussa. I think his ouds start at about 500 quid. here
is his website:
http://www.magicstrings.co.uk/
also a thread on his ouds:
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=7173
good luck with your purchase, think about what you are looking for in an oud before you make the plunge: what woods, specs, Arabic or Turkish etc,
fixed or bashir bridge, and so on. As stated, for 1000 UK pounds you can get a very nice oud. regards, MW

Michael Moussa's ouds are great, I've seen them in Cairo and they are really good.
With 1000 pounds you can also get a Grand Concert Faruk Turunz oud for 2000$ (1000Sterlings).
Do you really need an oud of that level, or would you prefer to get a beginners oud and decide if you will really want to continue "oud-ing", thats
what i did.

hahaha wow! this really was the right place to come to i guess hehehe im over whelmed with the responce guys very well appreciated thats for sure. i'm
wanting to compose my own pieces and am taking music very seriousley and would like to take it to another level. i was researching Nazih Ghadban's
ouds as he has provided marcel khalife and many others with ouds. requested a cost list so i shall see what happens with that. i could have easily got
a beginner oud by now but i want a quality piece of equipment that will meet my full requirments that will have a pure and powerful impact on music.
im excited with all this feedback and i shall check all these options out. thankyou sooooo much everyone .
take care of yourselves and much much respect.
Peace N Salaam to all!1!

Yes ...this happened to me as well on firefox dont know why?, try using another browser (MSN IE). If you still cant here is what the "price" tab had
to say
"All the ouds are at a fixed price of £500 ($1000) or the equivalent in euros with the exception of the highly decorated instruments or those with
multiribs e.g. ouds 1 or 3 (see page) which would be individually priced but generally it would be around £600-£650 ($1200-$1300).
Copying any existing instrument and resoration even of the badly damaged antique woods is possible. For an order, allow for 4-6 months before ready.
Prices of shipment is not included. Sound samples of the different styles is available.
To place your order please use the contact details displayed in the contacts page"
here is the oud tab link http://www.magicstrings.co.uk/lutes.htm

Raabiah, here's an idea: you can get a pretty good oud for £500-750. They're a lot better value for money than Western instruments. Trouble is, if
you're trying to buy from abroad it's a bit of a lottery. So use the rest of your £1000 to buy a plane ticket and see what you get before you buy.
Plus, you get a holiday thrown in. All you would need to think about is what general kind of oud/sound you want (lots of sound samples available on
this site if you search) and where you'd like to go - Istanbul, Syria, Lebanon, Cairo...? Pretty much all the oud makers from Samir's/katakofka's post
are very straight-up dealers who would be very happy to introduce you to the oud world, have a chat about your needs, give you your first lesson.
You can buy ouds for £1000 and they're good but the sound is a very individual thing and above about £500 it's more important than the price tag.
Yaroub Fadel has amazing ouds and very expensive but the sound might not be to everyone's liking, whereas my Nazih Ghadban was much lower price and I
love it. Then, when you get really good and know more about exactly what sound/style/playing feel you want you can splash the cash, by which time all
the makers will want you to play their instruments for free or your record label will pay for it for you.

wow! im lost for words. yeah i checked out all the above links and i guess i was actually spoilt for choice lol i have one baught for me from back in
jordan but however i cant wait for my sister to transport it over when she visits. so, therefore i'll have two to my collection lol michael moussa
lives like 20 mins away from where im situated in the uk right now. i never ever imagined there to be an oud passionist near by let alone an oud
maker...it pretty much made my night. as im having tremendous difficulties accessing his site could somebody please provide me with his address? it
would be most appreciated
hahahaha i dont have time to travel at the moment dave but thankyou for the credible advice lol i must say, it is quite confuzzling trying to pick
the right oud over the internet thats for sure. although, i'm taking a great liking for the antique ouds selling on this website hehehe like the oud
of the great mohammad abdel wahab
thankyou so much everyone!!!!!im in love with this site hahaha

Raabiah...if you are buying a oud to learn how to play I suggest do not spend lot of money on it. I know people they were willing to learn, but alone,
without a teacher. They got an expensive oud, after a while the surrender. They come to this site they post they have a oud for sale.
If you're not followed by someone I suggest to get a cheap oud, just to try and then you will decide if you need a good one. This is just a
suggestion

Hi Raabiah
I managed to get hold of one of Michael Moussa's ouds recently (see thread above). It is a very playable and expressive instrument with plenty of
character. I would heartily agree with the above advice also. whilst a good instrument certainly helps to unleash the creative juices you don't need
to spend a fortune. He has a good collection to try out and will work to match the oud to suit your music and temperament. If you are anywhere near
Manchester please you are welcome to call over to try the ones I have also. just send me u2u.

Hey Raabiah
Brilliant, another UK udi - you sound like you've already been playing oud for some time even though you have no oud this sounds like a great start.
Follow your heart my friend - perhaps we'll meet up sometime.
Good luck

Then let me be the first to congratulate you Raabiah. Great to have a new enthusiast. Very glad it worked out with Michael. He's getting a lot of good
press lately. I think I'm going to have to make a trip up to Bradford. Maybe when we have the great north oudfest.
