Looking for Dealers--Khalaf Oud Cases

I'm looking for a dealer(s) who would be interested in selling my Khalaf Oud Soft Cases direct to the public.

For a number of reasons I can no longer sell them direct. They are quite popular and well-liked, so I would like to see someone pick up the retail side of these so we can keep them available.

If you think you may be interested in selling these direct to the public, drop me an
email and I'll let you know the details.

Hey guys,

I'd be interested in one of Jameels cases. Can you tell me where I can buy one? I haven't been able to find a seller. Didn't Brian Prunka use to sell them?

Hello Luttgutt,

I've already had a look at Jameel's page. He doesn't sell them directly anymore. That's why I was looking for a retailer who is selling them. I think Brian Prunka used to sell them on his page but they are not listed anymore on his page. Strangely they are hard to find. Does anybody have more information on how to get one of the cases?

Jameel doesn't want to sell them anymore. John Vergara (Bulerias on the forum) tried selling them for a bit but decided not to continue doing so.

I have never sold them. I have talked with Jameel about the possibility and it may happen at some point, but right now I don't have the money to invest in such a project. What resources I do have are currently tied up in providing oud strings.

So to answer your question: unfortunately you can't get one for now, unless someone had a used one they wanted to sell.

The case below is clearly not of the same quality as Jameel's design but it looks better than many soft cases I've seen. If anyone buys one of these, please report to the forum on its quality.

Those cases are okay, they are much more cheaply made and don't offer as much protection as Jameel's cases, but they are not bad for such a low price. They are a bit small and may not fit larger Arabic ouds. They obviously tried to copy Jameel's design, which I think is a bit shady.

Has anyone checked in an oud to the aeroplane hold in a hard case? If so, did they get the case hand made...? Please advise on options!

Many thanks for all this.

anyone interested: add Virgin to the list of very tough airlines. They have a musical instrument policy which leaves no room for negotiations: if it's bigger than the standard carry-on size, buy another ticket on check it in :(

I've travelled on a Virgin flight with a saxophone (out of its case and on board with me!) on which someone brought a trombone on board in its case, but someone else (same flight) was obliged to check-in his guitar...

I'd qualify this by pointing out that there are related Virgin companies with independent policies. Virgin Australia on trans-pacific flights are inflexible. Virgin Blue within Australia can be very relaxed about carry on policy. Virgin Atlantic on trans-pacific flights is sometimes flexible, sometimes inflexible. Virgin America on its flights around the united states is very friendly and easy about instrument carry on. If there's room, there's room. If not, then there isn't. It's a big contrast to Virgin Australia (the former "V Australia"). There can be a half full flight with dozens of empty spacious overhead compartments and they will say there is no room.

I recently flew Delta (it was unavoidable) and can report that they have significantly improved their behavior toward musicians. Of course, one flight doesn't constitute a trend, but they have listed a policy that guitars and smaller instruments are permitted in the cabin as long as they fit.

However! Unlike most other airlines, which don't strictly count an instrument toward your carry-on allowance (ie. if you are allowed a a piece of luggage and a small carry-on, you can still bring an instrument), Delta considers your instrument to be your larger carry-on, and whatever else you bring on has to fit under the seat.

Credit where it's due, though: this is a major improvement.

A note from the AFM, stating that they are ending the boycott of Delta in response to the new policy:

For those interested in these cases, please see my other thread in the "ouds, ouds . . ." section. I am going to start producing these again if there is enough interest:
